"Harry Elliott Negley was born in Marion County, Ind., on Aug. 31, 1866, the son of David D. and Margaret Ann Hildebrant Negley. He attended Indiana public schools and studied law privately. Negley was admittted to the Indiana bar in 1890 and opened an office in Indianapolis in 1894. He spent his entire legal career in Indianapolis and specialized in real estate titles. He was elected to the Indiana senate in 1916."
