Sutzkever (b. 1913) , a Yiddish poet, was born in Belorussia and studied at the University of Vilna. He began publishing in 1933, and his first book, Lider, was published four years later. He was in, and escaped from, the Vilna Ghetto during WWII, and afterward testified at the Nuremberg Trials.
