The book is about stories of my childhood in El Salvador. It recaps the untimely and unusual death of my father and the impact this had in my life and writing. The influence of coming of age, with little guidance, in a country ravaged by civil war is apparent in nearly every verse. My poetry is filled with adolescent anger and discovery. The vision of Delicias, Morazan, El Salvador as a farming community of natural beauty and a simple lifestyle is overtaken by images of fear, death, and destruction that eventually become commonplace to a young boy (myself) learning to be a man.
The book recaps the twelve-year civil war in El Salvador. I lived through the first years of the war until 1983. I immigrated to the United States in the fall of 1983 with my family.
