Notes
1916-19. Ed. D Una RATCLIFFE. 11 issues from Spring 1916-Winter 1919. Each issue contains short stories, articles & minor verse, many being war poems, with sections headed “From the Front” & many accounts of solider’s diaries, including those relating to the death in action of family and friends. During the war years the contributing authors (often the Editor herself) are identified only by their initials. Original wraps. Uncommon.

Best known as a poet, producing writings supposedly in Yorkshire dialect. However, there are many Yorkshire dialects and it is unlikely therefore that any accuracy can be claimed in the approach of a single dialect. Yorkshire being made up of four counties each with their own range of dialects and local accents.
Dorothy Ratcliffe was said to be glamorous, coming from a privileged background, the niece of Lord Brotherton. It is claimed that she advised Brotherton about his collections of books and art.
On his death ion 1930, she inherited part of his estate.
She was also an avid collector of art, furniture and ceramics.
