Frénaud, André (1907-93). Poet, native of Burgundy. For most his life he held an office job with French Railways. His two-year imprisonment in Germany after the collapse of France in 1940 is a main source of his first collection, Les Rois Mages (1943). He was imprisoned by the Germans for two years until he managed to join the Resistance. His first poems were scribbled on scraps of paper from cement bags.
