James DODD, of the Royal Regiment of Horse Guards. This collection of verses was first published in 1727. We don't have any biographical information about the author but In a broadside c1740 called "The old trooper's humble petition. To the most noble John Duke of Montagu, &c." Dodd asks for a place as a Master Gunner. Montagu was Master General of the Ordnance, 1740-41, 1742-49. However, all Dodd's other verse was published between 1727-30. His poems have him marching to Dundee Scotland in 1716, fighting at sea in 1719, and stationed in Dublin in 1717. We presume therefore he was a poet soldier whose verse was self-published.
