An anthology of stories and poems, published by Vietnamese PEN Abroad East Coast Center in the US (1989) Vietnamese Abroad PEN Centre was formed in 1978 by Mrs. Minh Duc Hoai Trinh, a former member of Vietnam PEN, which disbanded after the communist takeover of South Vietnam in 1975. The Centre consists of Vietnamese writers in exile and became a full member centre of International PEN by a decision of the 44th Congress in Rio de Janeiro in 1979. Besides activities in the frame of the International PEN Charter, Vietnamese Abroad PEN has been working to promote Vietnamese literature overseas and to help the writers in Vietnam in their struggle for the freedom of expression
