"In Memorian J. T. T. Born 22d June, 1885. Killed in command of his Submarine, 15th August, 1916"--t.p. Printed for private circulation.

From the Foreword: "Though in minor details the Undiscovered Island bore some resemblance to the Arcadia of the classic poets, it differed in vital issues: for it was to be protected by an adequate Navy - si vis pacem para bellum. Its Lord High Admiral commanded a Submarine in the actual R.N. The Island Army, proud of its dignity and discipline, was to be held in readiness for combined operations with the Island Navy for defence of the British Empire on which the Sun then never set..........

The war of 1914-18, and its aftermath, smote heavily the prospective denizens of the Undiscovered Island."
