"The Road to Shiloh is a collection of poems written since 1984. The title poem is set in the American present but draws heavily on the experience of the American Civil War. It deals with the matter of American identity, from the point of view of a border Southerner, and concomitantly with the racial tension at the heart of the American experience. A multi-part prose introduction relatese the title poem, and the experience of the American South, to the author's own long experience of Wales..." -- back cover
