dutch war poems from WW 2 translated into English and published in London during the war

With a preface by His Excellency M.G. Bolkestein, Netherlands Minister of Education, Arts and Sciences. The introduction is by C.M. MacInnes, who edited the English translation of the Dutch poems contained in the volume. The original literal translation was undertaken by Mr E. Prins, and MacInnes turned the poems into metrical form.

The dedication on the front cover reads: Dedicated by Gracious Permission to H.M. Queen Wilhelmina of the Netherlands, who, like William the Silent and our own William the Third, has made the House of Orange the living embodiment of the Dutch people’s will to survive.

This professionally printed and bound booklet contains English translations of 28 Dutch poems most of which were written during the Second World War. Two poems were written before the war in 1937 and 1938, which anticipate the imminent threat to The Netherlands.
