The author covers some of the heroes of the Spanish American War through his use of several long epic poems. The contents are divided into some of the following: prelude; part I – where rode the Maine, demons’ mine; part II – McKinley, leaders of men, naval chiefs; part III – Dewey, Asian Squadron, cruisers’ captains; part IV – War’s leviathans, eve of battle, Boca Grande, Manila; Part V – Hostile waters, Manila Bay, Cavite; part VI – surrender, after battle; romance of Arab conquest; love and war in Moorish Grenada; Spain’s hero poets and decline of Spain’s golden age. The volume contains twenty B & W pictures of men from that era; some are: Capt. Sigsbee, Lieut.-Commander Wainwright, Judge Day, T. Roosevelt, Dewey, Capt. Coghlan, Lieut. Brumby, Maj.-Gen’l Fitzhugh Lee, etc. Book has a brown cover with black lettering; text pages are outlined in red. It is 5 ¼ x 7 7/16”. The only other reference I have seen for this book is on an andall listing.
Condition: Good TO Good Minus. Corners and spine ends show some wear and bumping; slight twist in binding; covers have faded areas, some soiling or spots; a little foxing – mainly to blank fly pages and some page edges
