First edition 138 pp., 14 blank leaves for autographs (unused), 1 advertisement leaf. Text illustrations by Thomas Nast and other artists Original gray cloth, lettered and decorated in gilt and black; later protective chemise and half morocco slipcase SHarte's elaborate poem was modeled after Lord Byron's "Childe Harold." "Cadet Grey" contains the first song Harte ever composed, and was the featured work (occupying pages 9 to 43) of this anthology of military verse.
