Following the practice with Khaki and Green in 1943, this book is the compilation of stories written by members of the Army which were selected for inclusion as part of a competition. As in earlier books in the series, they are referred to by their Army numbers but one section of Stand Easy actually identifies the contributors to all five books by name.
The contributed articles cover various aspects of the war from the soldier’s perspective – The Nerve War, Medical Evacuation, Behind Japanese Lines, Killed In Action, This Was Tarakan, Song of the Jungle, and Ambush are just a selection.

One section, from Bougainville to Borneo, covers the activities of the army in the final campaign in the south-west Pacific – the Second Australian Corps on Bougainville, Fifth Australian Division in New Britain, Sixth Australian Division at Aitape-Wewak, Ninth Australian Division at Tarakan and North-West Borneo, Seventh Australian Division at Balikpapan, The Surrender of the Japanese.

In the Toko-Darara area
On the 24th of January, the 25th Battalion relieved the 47th on the Tavera River. The same day a platoon from "D" Company landed at Motupena Point and set off down the coast towards Toko. By the 3rd of February the platoon had closed to within half a mile of Toko and established itself on a lagoon. That day another platoon landed from a barge and the force, carrying the sandbar at the point of the bayonet, swept into the area which was to become the base for divisional operations in southern Bougainville.

As with earlier books in the series there is an excellent selection of colour and black and white photographs and sketches highlighting people and places. It is a valuable resource and a great read for all interested in military history.

These books were written, illustrated & prepared by Serving Personnel of the Australian Service & include anecdotes, stories, poems, cartoons together with details of the fighting in which they participated. Profusely illustrated both in colour & black & white. The date enclosed in brackets is that of the original publication & indicates that the book is a reprint otherwise it is a first edition. Each series is complete.
