"John Balaban was born in the United States in 1943. He took his B.A. at Pennsylvania State University and his M.A. at Harvard University. He spent two years in Vietnam 67-69 as a conscientious objector, acting first as an instructor at the University of Can Tho in the Mekong Delta, and later (after the university was destroyed by allied bombing during the 1968 Tet offesnsive) as a field representative for the Committee of Responsibility to Save War Injured Children. At present he is an instructor at Penn State, but expects to return to Vietnam in 1971. This is his first collection of poems"
