M.M. TEAGAR, a native of Bath County, Ky., was born May 1, 1833. His
father, Jacob Teagar, was a native of Lewis County, Ky., and of German
origin; his mother, Louisa Teagar, was a daughter of Michael Moore, who, for
five years, was a soldier in the Revolutionary war. M.M. Teagar remained on
the home farm until eighteen years of age; he was educated at Antioch
College, O. [sic], began to read law in 1857 under John Alexander, of
Flemingsburg, and in February, 1860, was joined the Second Battalion
Kentucky Mounted Rifles, under Col. Johnson, of Mount Sterling, and served
until the close of the war, but most of the time on detail service. On his
return to Flemingsburg he served as deputy county clerk from 1866 to 1868,
and as deputy circuit clerk from 1868 to 1870; in August, 1870, he was
elected county clerk, and was re-elected in 1874. At the close of his
second term he returned to the practice of law, and in 1882 was elected
county attorney, and served one term. In 1884 he was appointed master
commissioner, and still holds that office. May 11, 1871, he married Miss
Irene Emma Staley, a native of Jefferson, Ind., and their union has been
blessed with one child, Jacob Staley. Mr. Teagar is a Knight Templar and a
member of the Christian Church. In politics he is a Democrat.
