Not in the Dictionary of National Biography.A collection of poem by the early-nineteenth century minor Scottish poet, which largely deals with his time spent as a member of the 42nd Royal Highland Regiment (commonly known as The Black Watch), fighting during the Napoleonic Wars. During the wars with Napoleon (during the years of Malcolm'sservice), the 42nd saw action in the Battle of Corunna, the Battle of Quatre Bras, and the Battle of Waterloo, among others. "The poetry, it is true,is not of the first order, but there are portions of it which possess verypleasing character. though it has not a single new image [as Malcolm hada tendancy to rely more on classical stylings and allusion], (it) cannot fail to interest the reader by its tenderness of feeling and ease of versification."
