Notes
A CO during Korea served in the army medical service. A few poems relate to this service..
from his website. David Langworthy grew up on several small farms his parents rented and operated in southern Minnesota, and graduated from a small town high school and from Hamline University. He had the good fortune to find excellent teachers in both, though he was hardly a scholar. A conscientious objector, he served in the Army medical service during the Korean War. In 1955 he met and married the girl of his dreams, Alice Stinchcombe. They have three daughters and nine grandchildren

"Wilbur, Carruth, Clampitt, Ammons, Adair, Berry, Dugan, Heany, Hinds, Kumin, Levine, Gilbert, Walcott, Kooser--you may hear echoes of these and other contemporary poets whose work has delighted me. But the echoes have been strained through an essentially prosaic tempera- ment. These admired poets fly high singing their hearts out, but I have usually walked, sometimes with a stone in my shoe, speaking plainly and rarely breaking into song.

"You may wonder why I bother to publish poems I seem so diffident about. Well, from time to time I have felt great affection for all these poems, and readers whose judgment I trust have encouraged me to hope that others may enjoy them, too. Please come in and see if you do.

"Of the poems I've chosen to present here, only a few have been previously published, and those few appeared in Quaker newsletters.".
