Notes
This book comes from a literary very-well-connected source, the Spurgeon family, of whom Sir Arthur Spurgeon (1862-1938) was the General Manager and Chairman of Directors of Cassells, the London based Publishing House. It is one of a number of books I will be listing from the same source, some very rare. So please watch my listings for some scarce, interesting, and very collectable items coming up

A collection of new poems by 62 contributors, may be of special interest to any relatives of Lucy Graham, at the time living at Heathside, Limpsfield. As well as containing two poems by her, there is another of her shorter poems that was not accepted for publication, hand-written inside the back cover, and a double sided letter from her to Mrs Mary Spurgeon, asking her to pass this book on to Miss (Dorothy) Mary Spurgeon.

Obviously being 1943, there are quite a number of poems concerning the War. The other contributors, mostly of several poems, were: - Beryl M. Adams (2). - Daphne Anderson (3). - Josephine Anderson (4). - F. Baron (Baranowska)(1). - Sarah Bloch (1). - E. D. Broster (1). - Edgar S. Burdett (1). - W. D. Camplin (3). - Storm Chalinor (or Chaliner)(1). - P. J. Cochrane (2). - C. W. Cockerell (2). - Ann R. Cookes (1). - W. H. Dennett-Morgan (1). - Mary Evers (1). - E. M. Fitzpatrick (4). - Elsie R. Gordon(3). - Muriel Grainger (4). - Siwerida Green (4). - Winifred Haigh (3). - Myfanwy Haycock (1). - M. H. Hill (3). - Ronald Hodson (1). - Robert E. Horsfall (1). - Charlotte C. Horne (2). - N. Hosali (4). - Percy Howard (1). - Nesta Jennings-Campbell (1). - Margaret Johnson (2). - Amory Leggatt (3). - Douglas Mace (3). - Beatrice C. Madeley (2). - Fred C. Markwell (2). - E. M. Martin (3). - Phyllis Martin (4). - M.C.H. (2). - Diana Momber (3). - G. E. O. Mullins (3). - G. S. Oddy (4). - F. Kent Peachey (4). - Juanita Peirse (2). - Alan Phillips (4). - T. Pittaway (4). - Peter Railing (1). - Grace Dorothy Reeves (3). - Eileen Reynolds (2). - Maurice C. Ricks (2). - S. M. Rush (2). - Harry Sefton (4). - Mary Shane (2). - W. T. Shorthose (1). - Doris Shorthouse (1). - George A. Smiley (2). - Kate Smith (2). - W. Smith (3). - C. R. B. Sumner (1). - D. E. Christine Tomlin (5). - M. D. Turner (2). - Edith M. Walker (2). - John Wilcox (1). - Frederick Francis Wilks (4). - Juliet Young (4).

On Sale is a 1943 edition of the quarterly "Extra" of 'The Poetry Review', * POETRY OF TODAY *, edition (5) - 1943 - (67), published in London, size approx 8-3/4 inches x 5-3/4 inches, with 132 pages.

The light-brown paper oversized cover is splitting a little on the overlap and chipped on the spine-ends overlap, darkening on the spine, still sound with spine not split and covers attached, Lucy Graham's page numbers written to the top front corner, slight handling creasing, with a small indentation to the front, but mostly clean and tidy (see photo, back in similar condition to the front). Inside is complete, page edges rough-cut, numerous top edges still uncut so you will need a paper-knife to open, binding tight and all pages attached, correction of one word by Graham, else no writing or graffiti other than mentioned, pages not torn and corners not turned, not tanned or foxed, obviously little read as a lot of pages are still joined at the top, generally bright and very clean and tidy.
