Born January 10, 1947; poems written over approximately 7 years, between the ages of 14 and 21; married Lynda Alice; drafted into Army; died in Viet Nam on May 22, 1968.

"The worst time for Tim, both as a person and a poet, appeared to be during his sojourn in the Army in the United States prior to Viet Nam. During this time he was involved in a very serious internal struggle to extricate himself from the three-pronged dilemma in which he was entangled. He had to decide in which way he would give up his freedom. He could refuse to go to Viet Nam and face jail time and a dishonorable discharge; he could leave the United States and become an exile from his family and the country he loved; or he could participate in a war which, he was convinced, was completely immoral. For the sake of his young wife and baby boy, Tim chose to accept Viet Nam. He made this choise [sic] so that their son would have no stigma to bear, such as our society places on its citizens who refuse to fight wars and kill other human beings..." -- p.iv
