Frances Cornford, 1886-1960. Daughter of Sir Francis Darwin. Educated at home. In1908 married Francis Macdonald Cornford, who became Professor of Ancient Philosophy at Cambridge. One of their sons was John Cornford, who was killed fighting for the Spanish republic in December 1936. Awarded Heinemann Prize for Poetry, 1948, and the Queen's Medal for Poetry, 1959. -- Reilly
