Gen. Alexander Hamilton (1815-1907) was a descendant of Alexander Hamilton (1757-1804) and from the wealthy Dutch family of van del Heuvel, which owned a large tract of Manhattan. He signed some of his works "Heuvel" or "Den Heuvel". Was arrested in 1887 and "adjudged a lunatic" by the court.
