Prolific author and Civil war veteran James McCormick Dalzell (1838-1924) (a.k.a. "Private Dalzell") perhaps best known for starting the tradition of reunions of veterans with a gathering in Caldwell, Ohio in 1873. A well-regarded orator at these events, he was also a prolific writer, and his works, both poetry and prose, championed the sacrifices of Civil War veterans were published widely.
