Poems to awaken our consciences to all aspects of military violence. These bilingual poems express the viewpoints of all war's victims: dead and wounded, mothers and children, soldiers and civilians. Not dogmatic or accusatory, this is a profound meditation on the nature of war.

Marjorie Agosín (born 1955) is an award-winning poet, activist, and professor. She teaches Spanish language and Latin American literature at Wellesley College. She has won notability for her outspokenness for women rights in Chile.[1] The United Nations has honored her for her work on human rights.[2] She also won many important literary awards. The Chilean government awarded her with the Gabriela Mistral Medal of Honor for Life Achievement in 2002.

Agosín was born in Bethesda, Maryland, United States to Moises and Frida Agosín in 1955.[3] She was raised in Chile but fled in exile to the United States in 1971, fearing the consequences of Augusto Pinochet's coup d'etat of Salvador Allende's socialist government.[4] She received her Ph.D. from Indiana University at Bloomington.
